Why is the Referral Status column for customers not updating on the Customer Referrals screen?

The Status column for a particular referral on the Admin panel’s Customer Referrals screen is not updated when there are no Customer Behavior Earning rules defined for referrals. If a referral invitation email is sent to a referred customer and no referral rules are defined, or defined and not active, the Status column for that particular referral will show “Message Sent”. No further updates will occur in the Status column until referral rules are defined, active, and the Customer Action or Event (sign-up, referral makes first/any order) has been completed by the referred customer.
