Points Balance Expiration Feature

As of MageRewards 1.3, MageRewards features the ability to choose how and if the customer's points balance expires. With configuration you can choose:

  • how customers are notified
  • how long it takes for points to expire (in days)
  • the conditions, and
  • whether or not points expire
  • etc... (see bellow for all options)

These configuration options can be accessed by going to the  Customer Rewards -> Configuration in the back-end of your Magento store.

The way points balance expiry works is that if the customer does not redeem their points within a certain phase number of days the points balance will expire completely. If the customer redeems any number of points on an order, or earn any number of points, the points balance expiry timer will reset. 

When the customer's point balance expires, they receive a negative transfer of points that nullifies their points balance. This transfer shows in the customer's Spendings history. This is done to retain a record of the points expiring and to not collide with any pending points transfers that the customer might have.

You can then choose up to two notification e-mail templates that will be sent at different times. You can configure it to send a reminder e-mail 30 days before expiry then again 2 days before the points expire. You can also specify a 0 days number to send the second notification e-mail exactly when points expire.

  • Enable points balance expiry

  • Number of days before points balance expires

  • Number of days before first warning e-mail
    Enter -1 to disable
    configured per store view
  • E-mail template for first warning e-mail
    configured per store view
  • Number of days before second warning e-mail
    Enter -1 to disable configured per store view
  • E-mail template for second warning e-mail
    configured per store view
  • Write expiry actions to log
    Writes to var/log/rewards_expire.log when points expire for any customer or when an e-mail is sent
