Setting Up a Shopping Cart Spending Rule
Shopping cart redemption rules are redemption rules that are applicable by shopping cart attributes. An example of a shopping cart redemption rule is: If the customer spends 100 points they will receive a 5% discount on their entire cart's subtotal.
Basically with these kinds of rules, if any shopping cart spending rule is valid for the cart you will see the box that comes up in the shopping cart. if none are valid you will not see this box. That is, if you don't have any valid shopping cart points spending rules for the current shopping cart, the box will not show.
If you created a fixed spending rule with something like “Spend X points” as the spending condition and the rule is valid for the current shopping cart, the box will show and show an check box. By default the redemption rule is not applied to the cart until the store customer (user) checks the box (and is logged in). After it is applied it will take effect using the actions that you specified. This may be a fixed discount or variable discount, etc.
If you created a variable spending rule with something like “For every X points spent...” as the spending condition and the rule is valid for the current shopping cart, the box will show and show the MageRewards shopping cart points slider. These kinds of rules depend on the amount of points used by the user. The default point spent is 0 points. As soon as more points are being spent, the discount action you specified will take effect in increments.
Start by navigating to: Rewards > Reward Rules > Spending Rules > Shopping Cart
This will take you to the Shopping Cart Point Spending Rules page.
Here you can specify the conditions that are required for the customer to receive a discount. Under conditions, you can specify which products to the redemption is applicable to. Under customer spends points, you can specify how many points the customer needs to spend in order to receive a discount: either a fixed amount or a variable amount dependent on how much the product costs.
Here is where you will specify what the discount the customer received. The customer can receive a shopping cart redemption discount in the following ways:
- By percentage of the original price: giving the customer a percentage discount off. eg. 10% off.
- By a fixed amount: a fixed monetary discount. eg. $10 off.
- To percentage of the original price: sets the product's new price to a percentage of the original price. eg. new price is 25% of original price.
- To fixed amount: sets the product's new price to a fixed amount. eg. the new price is $10.
